The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says only six political parties will participate in the March 6 Kafinhausa State Constituency by-election, a statement by the commission in Jigawa has said.
In the statement in Dutse, on Wednesday, Dr Mahmuda Isah, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, listed the parties as: African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said that all the parties had successfully conducted their primaries as required by the law, while INEC had concluded the recruitment and training of Ad-hoc staff for the exercise.
Those recruited comprised Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers I, II and III, Supervisory Presiding Officers, Collation Officer, as well as Constituency Returning Officers.
He identified the wards that made up the constituency as: Dumadumin Toka with 12 polling units, Gafaya with 16 polling units, Kafinhausa with 25 polling units, Kazalewa with 14 polling units, Ruba with 17 polling units and Sarawa with 34 polling units.
“This gives a total of 118 polling units plus two voting points, making 120 polling units,” the REC said.
Isah further said that the INEC’s sensitive materials for the exercise would be retrieved from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dutse branch, on March 4, and would be conveyed to Kafinhausa Local Government Area ahead of the polls.
“Meanwhile, the non-sensitive materials have been delivered to the LGA, as well as the smart card readers duly configured.
” The commission is proactive and has also made available additional reserved smart card readers, to meet any challenges while in the field of work to the local government ,” Isah said.
He added that arrangements of vehicles to move men and materials to and from polling areas, in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the local government area, had been completed.
