Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has appealed to all tiers of Government to make the Innoson brand the official vehicles for the public service, especially after the recent launch of the company’s luxury brands.
“It has always been my unflinching stance that Government must strive at all times to encourage, rather than stifle, entrepreneurship, as this is the only way to grow the country’s economy. I, therefore, passionately appeal to Government at all levels to actively support Innoson Motors and other indigenous manufacturers by meaningfully patronising them.
“In the case of Innoson, I appeal to Nigerian Governments at all tiers to make the Innoson brand the official vehicles for the public service, especially after the recent launch of the company’s luxury brands,” Obi said in a statement issued by his Media Office on Saturday.
He recalled how as Governor of Anambra State, he laid the foundation of Innoson Motors in Nnewi and thereafter showed active interest in the company even after it began operation. “What I am suggesting is not difficult to accomplish. My administration purchased Innoson buses for all public and private schools in the State from Innoson Motors. In the same vein, security vehicles for towns, markets, big institutions and vehicles for traditional rulers were procured from Innoson. On balance, my administration purchased over 1,000 vehicles from Innoson and payment was made upfront as a goodwill gesture to encourage the company. Many of those vehicles are still functional,” Obi said.
“I sincerely thank Nigerians and friends of Nigeria for their consistent support for the visionary entrepreneur, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, who has been contributing in concrete terms to the growth and development of the Nigerian Economy. Government and well-meaning Nigerians should intervene towards an amicable resolution of the transaction crisis between Innoson and its bankers, GTBank,” Obi said.
