Adamawa lawmakers on Wednesday ordered the state Acting Chief Judge to constitute a seven man panel towards the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Mr James Ngilari .The lawmakers’ move was in spite of a court order earlier restraining them.
During a plenary session, twenty out of the twenty five members of the State House of Assembly ,including the speaker Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri that presided , endorsed a move to impeach Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy Barrister Bala James Ngillari.
After adopting the rules of proceedings, the lawmakers therefore directed the state Acting Chief Judge,Justice Ambrose Mamadi to constitute the seven man panel that will investigate the governor and his deputy and also to report back within one week.
The latest move followed weeks of intense altercation between the Nyako and some members of the state Assembly which led to the invitation and even arrest of some commissioners that failed to honor the House invitation to answer charges of financial recklessness against them.
The impeachment motion was moved by the member representing Numan Constituency and Deputy Speaker of the House Barr. Kwamoti Laori who said he was spurred by the height of the financial recklessness that has become the hallmark of Nyako’s Government to move the motion.
The house then went ahead to slam a -20 count charge of gross financial misappropriation against Nyako ‘s government.
