Nyako Blames EFCC For Non–Payment of Adamawa Workers’ Salaries

Embattled Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako has blamed the non payment of June Salaries on what he described as “the illegal act of the EFCC(Economic and Financial Crimes Commission).”
“Let the good people of Adamawa State know that the nonpayment of the June salaries is precipitated by the illegal act of the EFCC which is endorsed by the Adamawa State House of Assembly”Nyako said Wednesday in statement by Ahmad I. Sajoh, Director, Press and Public Affairs Government House Yola.
The statement was responding to a resolution by the Adamawa State House of Assembly. “The attention of the Adamawa State Government has been drawn to a resolution of the Adamawa State House of Assembly calling on the State Government to pay June salaries immediately. This is simply blackmail. The House of Assembly is aware of the illegality of the freezing of the state accounts by the EFCC. Their claim that one of the accounts is open is not supported by facts. There is no document relating to the closure of the accounts since the process did not go through the required legal instruments.
“Consequently any statement relating to which account is closed or open is mere speculation. What is certain is that the EFCC has frozen all the accounts of Adamawa State without resort to any Court order as required by section 34 of the EFCC Act. For the House of Assembly to adopt a resolution supporting such illegality, it means that the hallowed Chamber of the Assembly has been used to promote an illegality. This is rather unfortunate.
Nyako said “In view of the above therefore, it should be clear to the people of Adamawa State who their enemies are. Those who illegally froze their accounts and those who support such illegality are the ones responsible for the nonpayment of June Salaries. No amount of propaganda or resolutions of the House can change that. It should be noted that never in the history of impeachment in this country has the EFCC or any agency taken sides as this one. And any support given to such illegality by the House of Assembly only reinforces our belief that the whole process is tele-guided from Abuja.
