Rasheedat Ajibade, the captain of FC Robo Queens of Lagos, says Saturday’s goalless draw with hosts Nasarawa Amazons Football Club will not distract them from focusing on achieving their season target.
Nasarawa Amazons could only draw 0-0 with the visitors in the 2017/2018 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season opening fixture at the Lafia Township Stadium.
Ajibade expressed delight with the lone point picked by her team against the defending champions.
“The outcome is a result of hard work, teamwork and determination of the team to make a difference in the new season.
“But in spite of the excitement of picking a point away from home against the league’s defending champions, FC Robo Queens will not be carried away by the development.
“We will remain focused on the set targets of qualifying for the Super 4 tournament and winning the league title.
“Glory be to God for the success of this game and giving us the opportunity to have a draw against the defending champions. But I assure that we will not be carried away because the season has just started.
“This is because winning the first match or picking a point does not mean you have won the league. It is just a starting point.
“We are more dedicated to concentrating on what is ahead of us and we will not let this positive result today get into our heads,” she said.
Emmanuel Orobosa, the Head Coach of FC Robo Queens who also expressed joy over his team’s effort, said their target was to clinch a Super 4 Ticket and win the league.
“Our vision is to be in the Super 4 because I saw what happened in Benin last season. I felt bad, and said my team was supposed to be here. So, by the grace of God, our goal is to in the Super 4 and ultimately win the season,” he said.
Also speaking to newsmen, Christopher Danjuma, the Head Coach of Nasarawa Amazons, said in spite of the dropped points, he remained confident that his team would retain the league title.
“It is not an issue of underrating our opponents. What I know is that my team remains the best and we will do our best to retain our title.
“We will show we are the best in our upcoming fixtures. We are still the champions.
“We are focused on three targets — winning the Aiteo Cup, the Shield and the league title. We will do our best to achieve our targets,” he said.
In spite of the encounter being an entertaining one, both teams failed to utilise the goal scoring chances available to them.(NAN)
