The chairman of Maduguri based Nigeria Premier League side, Elkanemi Warriors, Alhaji Mala Zannah has said that they are happy to finish fourth in the just concluded 2012-13 league season.
The chairman who spoke with journalists today in Abuja said his boys proved why they deserve promotion to the nation’s elite division, adding that it was really a champion’s feat they put up during the league games.
According to him, “We gave account of ourselves, I know we should have done better, but be it as it may, we thank God for seeing us through.”
However, Zannah said their feat wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the executive governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Alhaji Kashim Shetima, the number one sports lover of the state and his deputy, who love seeing the club winning matches.
“His Excellency made our job easy for us by providing all that we needed to be where we are today, so I want to thank him and his deputy on behalf of the players and the team’s officials for being there for us. And I want to assure him that we are going to prepare ourselves better come next season so that we can surpass the last season’s feat,” he said.
Meanwhile, he opined that Elkanemi won all their matches on merit despite the insecurity in the state and other parts of the country. He insisted that no club was molested in Maiduguri throughout the entire season, a situation he gave kudos to Maiduguri fans of Elkanemi who conducted well themselves during all their home matches.
