Community Action for Popular Participation (CAPP), an NGO, has urged more women join political parties and participate fully in politics.

Mr Nelson Ananze, CAPP Executive Director, made the call on Monday in Jos at a workshop organised for women, youths and persons living with disabilities.

Ananze charged women to take their destiny in their hands and step out to be counted.

The director said that the organisation was highly disappointed with the outcome of the primaries held by political parties ahead of local government elections in Plateau.

He said that many women contested for primaries in various political parties but few were nominated to contest.

“The poor result is because women were not deeply involved in the processes that culminated in primaries.

“Women are only given the women leader and it is not enough; women should be given positions in the party cabinet.

“They should also seek to get more delegates during party congresses to vote for women because it is by so doing that they win primaries,” he advised.

In an address, Mrs Helen Dabup, the former Director, National Assembly Service Commission, charged women to use the knowledge they had acquired to effect change.

Dabup said women should not to allow themselves to relegated to the background in the political space.

According to her, politics is not for personal gain but service to humanity and that whoever sees it differently will fail.

The former Rector, Plateau Polytechnic, commended CAPP for their decision to train the three groups.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prof Rahila Gowon of University of Jos presented a paper on “Structure and Features of Political Parties Manifestoes”. (NAN)
