Supporters of Senate Ali Ndume including several Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Borno State on Tuesday protested against the suspension of the Senator from the Senate.
Senator Ndume was suspended last week for leveling frivolous allegations sourced from online media against Senator Dino Melaye and the Senate President .He brought the issues which he picked from online media to the plenary without proper investigation.
Ndume was eventually suspended by the Senate after an investigation of his allegations by the ethics committee.
Speaking to our correspondent at the National Assembly, a female IDP from IDP camp in Wasa Abuja Kyellu Suleiman said they were protesting against Ndume’s suspension because the senator is their helper and he provides food for them.
“Ndume is our helper, he provides food for us, he takes care of us. We have not received any help from Saraki since we were displaced from our communities by Boko Haram,” Suleiman said.
Another male IDP Musa Ali said the peaceful protest was to appeal to the Senate to call Ndume back as they cannot afford not to be represented for 6 months.
“We are here for a peaceful protest against suspension of Senator Ali Ndume. We want the Senate to call him back as we cannot afford not to be represented for 6 months” Ali said.
Coordinator of IDPs in Abuja Idris Ibrahim also appealed to the Senate to rescind in suspension of Ndume. He said Ndume’s suspension will not only affect the Senator but peoples from his constituency
