Malam Ali Muhammad Ali, the Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),
has promised to prioritise the welfare of workers in the agency.

Ali stated this when he received some members of the agency’s Staff Bus Welfare Committee in his office in Abuja.

He said that the management of the agency believed strongly in the welfare of members of staff, adding that “let me
say without fear of contradiction that without workers, there will be no News Agency of Nigeria.

“The welfare of staff is a top priority to us, although we have limited resources, we largely depend on government
subvention to operate.

“A happy worker is a productive worker; always ready to add value to his organisation.

“We will do everything possible to ensure proper welfare for members of staff because we have to be on the same page.”

He said the management placed high premium on welfare of members of staff in its efforts to turnaround the fortunes of the agency.

He added that “since I assumed office in September, I have always placed priority on workers’ welfare, I refused to raise my
monthly fuel allowance because I believe it is not a priority.

“I always minimise the use of my official vehicle because it is meant for official use only.

“I always avoid the use of official vehicle at the weekends because it is meant for official purposes only,” Ali said.

The managing director also promised to consider the request of the committee on overhaul of some staff buses of the agency.

“We are ready to facilitate workers’ movement from home to office for their work,” he added.

Earlier, Mr Collins Hammer, who led the delegation, commended the management for ensuring welfare for members of staff.

Hammer appealed to the management to overhaul some of the broken down agency’s staff buses to ease the hardship being faced b
y workers.(NAN)
