The Presidency has debunked rumours at the weekend that President Muhammadu Buhari had died in London. One report even claimed that arrangements were being made to convey the president’s remains back to Nigeria. But “it’s all lies”,says the Presidency on Sunday.
Reacting to the rumours,Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, “Nothing unpleasant has happened to the President. No cause for apprehension. Thanks for the many calls.”
Shehu said this in one of his tweets on Sunday. He said in his earlier tweets: “Baseless rumors are trending again that an unpleasant thing has happened to our beloved President, Muhammadu Buhari.
“If you have received this information on WhatsApp or Facebook, disregard it bcos it is plain lies spread by vested interests to create panic.”
Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina in his reaction on his twitter handle also wondered, “Why do some people rage and imagine vain things? It is the counsel of God that shall stand. May God bless all those praying for PMB.”
It seems some rumour mongers have made reporting “Buhari’s death” their pastime. When he was in London late last year, a website had reported that he had died. But the president returned to Nigeria alive. The latest claim of the president’s “death” came after his recent return to London for medical follow up.
Nothing unpleasant has happened to the President. No cause for apprehension. Thanks for the many calls.
