Liverpool’s Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah, scored his 29th English Premier League goal six minutes from time to secure a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The win takes Liverpool up to provisional second spot in the table, only for the Merseyside club to drop to third after Manchester United beat Swansea 2-0 in a later fixture.

Crystal Palace took an early lead with Luka Milivojevic’s seventh successful penalty kick this season after Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius had charged into goal-bound Wilfried Zaha and was booked.

Sadio Mane made up for missing some first-half chances by giving Liverpool a deserved equaliser early in the second half, tapping in James Milner’s loss cross from the left.

Crystal Palace’s striker Christian Benteke was guilty of two bad misses against his former club in quick succession before Salah struck to leave the hosts mired in the relegation fight.

Liverpool thus went a point ahead of Manchester United, who reclaimed second place after beating Swansea City 2-0 at home later on Saturday.

Crystal Palace remain two points above the relegation zone, and they travel to Bournemouth in the English Premier League next Saturday.

Liverpool host Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday before travelling to Goodison Park for the league’s Merseyside derby on Saturday. (Reuters/NAN)
