The Knights and Ladies St Mulumba KSM, Wuse Sub-Council, on Sunday organized Bible recitation competition for Catholic youths in Abuja Archdiocese as part of the activities to mark the feast day of their founder, Rev Father Abraham Anselm Ojefua.
Fifty two children between the ages of eight and 18 years participated in month long Bible recitation screening exercise taken from the Gospel of St Matthew Chapters 5, 6, & 7 (the Sermon on the Mount).
Speaking during the presentation of trophies and prizes to the winner and runners-up at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral on Sunday in Abuja, the Grand Knight of Wuse Sub Council, Dr. Augustine Ategbole said the aim of the contest was to inculcate bible reading habits among the young ones.
He said, “We want to inculcate in the young ones the spirit of reading the scriptures. We want the children to keep reading about holy people rather than spending much time on the social media.”
According to the grand knight, the contest which debuted last year will be stepped up beyond Abuja Archdiocese to involve children and youths across the country.
Twelve year old Miss Dili Ekenem Etigbue emerged the overall winner while Miss Ihechere Chiamaka 13, and Andrea Tony-Iwere, eight years, clinched second and third positions respectively.
The Knights of St Mulumba, Nigeria was founded in 1953 by a Catholic monk, late Father Abraham Anselm Ojefua with 23 members. Today, the membership strength has risen to over 20,000 with about 220 sub councils.
