Kelina hospital introduces modern cancer treatment equipment

The Kelina Hospital, Abuja, says it is introducing a modern medical equipment, 120 Watts Laser, to lessen the burden of prostate cancer in the country.

Dr Celsius Undie, the Medical Director of the hospital, disclosed this in Abuja on Saturday.

Undie said that the machine designed for cancer treatment would be presented to the public on Nov. 8 at the Yar’adua Centre, Abuja.

He said the equipment would be the first of its kind in the country and also the latest and most powerful laser in Africa on the 120 watts laser series.

According to him, the equipment is the most powerful holmium laser ever invented for surgical work till date.

“Kelina hospital is proud to be the first hospital to acquire this along with the latest (mose) technology.

“Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (Holep) was never done in Nigeria before 2018,” he said.

He said the hospital introduced Holep in October 2018 as part of its 10th anniversary, with the most advanced technology in medical practice.

The hospital is conducting Laser Prostrate surgery, Laser lithotripsy for kidney stones, laparoscopy surgery, gastroscopy and colonoscopy, among other surgeries.

Other services include endoscopic surgical procedures which the hospital carries out routinely.

The medical director also said that the hospital organises regular yearly surgical mission since 2009, affording Nigerians high-tech surgical operations at minimal or no cost.

According to him, patients come from all walks of life and from all over the country and beyond.

He said the celebration would include a Patient Forum that would enable them to give testimonials on HoLEP/prostate; lithotripsy/kidney stones done with this laser, including a lecture by medical experts. (NAN)
