Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, on Tuesday, said the state government was making arrangements to establish 1,000 settlements for pastoralists to curtail the recurring clash between farmers and herdsmen.

The governor made the disclosure while presenting the N151 billion 2018 proposed budget to the state’s  House of Assembly in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the settlements would be provided with water, animal feed, land and other amenities.

He added that the tension that resulted into clashes between farmers and herdsmen was due pressure on land and water sources between the two groups.

He explained that the establishment of settlements for pastoralists would also encourage modernisation of dairy farms and beef production.

He gave the assurance that the pressure over sources of water for commercial fishing, especially availability of fingerlings, would also be resolved, stressing that “fingerlings would be provided to expand the scope of fishing.” (NAN)
