The 4th Kano Social Influencers Summit entered its second day Thursday October 25. It was fitting start to the day’s activities as a prominent development activist, Dr Maryam Uwais delivered a major paper on Gender, corruption and the struggle for promoting accountability.
Maryam Uwais’ talk generated alot of reaction as she encouraged women and girls to rise up to be counted despite the challenges.While encouraging women to seize opportunities through education, she called for caution.The kinds of questions and chorus of responses to comments from women, and of course, young men made the proceedings exciting.
Newsdiaryonle reports that there has been a large turnout of girls, women at the#KanSIS23.The newspaper also reports that the presence of young women has been noticed in the previous summits but crowd of young women at #KanSIS23 has palpably grown this year.
Also Newsdiaryonline further reports there was the noticeable presence of people witb disabilities in the first and second days of #KanSIS23. It was little surprising that experts in sign language for people with disabilities were seen beside speakers addressing the participants.
Even more people with disabilities were seen also tasked with interpreting lectures and comments as proceedings continued.
It was observed that some of the parallel sessions are focused on women and gender issues.They include the sessions on Digital Literacy for Women and Girls and one for Gender based Violence among others.
The Summit it was learnt was hugely supported by MacArthur Foundation among others. While addressing #KanSIS23 virtually on its first day, Dr Kole Shettima, Africa Director MacArthur Foundation commended CITAD for the work it does.
