Kaduna: 177 communities benefit from Uba Sani CARES intervention programme

The Kaduna State Community and Social Development Agency (KADCSDA) said over 177 communities have benefited from Uba Sani CARES special intervention programme in the state.

Muhammed Mukaddas, General Manager of the agency, disclosed this while presenting the agency’s achievements from January – June in Kaduna on Wednesday.

He said that the projects were aimed at supporting rural communities in dire need of infrastructures in Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health and Education, as selected by them.

According to him, 177 micro projects have been executed with 129,068 beneficiaries aimed at improving the lives of people in rural urban poor communities within the state.

He said that since its establishment, the agency only supported 28 communities, which have now expanded to 200 communities with 85 per cent completion stage.

“The livelihood support delivery platform which, has provided livelihood support for 1,335 people with 733 males and 563 females, who received grants of N1million each to boost their businesses.”

Mukaddas mentioned that basic infrastructures were provided based on their needs towards schools, Primary Health Care centres renovations, while boreholes were drilled for better service delivery to the communities.

The general manager added that the project was part of the agency’s mandate to ensure the reduction in poverty levels within communities.

“The agency is saddled with the responsibility of reducing poverty levels within communities by bridging the gap of the unreached groups.

“These were done through a Community Driven Development approach (CDD) targeted at the provision of basic social and infrastructure services in rural and urban poor areas.”

For sustainability, he described it as a community driven developmental project, which government supported with funds based on their priority of needs.

He said that the agency would continue to sensitise communities to indicate interest on their basic needs be supported. (NAN)
