Kaduna Governor Rammalan Yero called on parents in the state to endeavor to bring out their wards for immunization as government is commitment to the total eradication of the menace in the state.
The governor also charged all stakeholders that government will not want to compromise on the gains made so far as efforts are geared towards reaching every child in the state.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony of May 2014 Sub national immunization Plus Days in Makarfi local government area , the Governor said, “I want to implore us all not to lose sight of the fact that we are still posed with challenges of non compliances, missed children and poor team performance. We must therefore join hands to ensure we overcome these challenges as they are all surmountable”.
Represented by his Deputy Bajoga, Yero said, “we have noted with deep concern that the local government is still faced with pockets of unresolved non compliances and high proportion of missed children”.
On efforts so far, the governor said, “Our journey towards achieving this lofty goal has shown that we are on the right track as evidenced by our zero record of wild polio Virus, (WPV) since 12th November 2012 and steady improvement in the lot quality Assessment Survey result.
“These achievements, I believe were recorded through diligent commitment from all of us. I will there fore continue to count on you as you all aware that polio eradication is a collective responsibility, please do not be tired of us, we shall soon bethere.
“I would therefore like to call on all parents and caregivers with eligible children aged, 0-5 years to avail them the opportunity to be immunized with the oral polio vaccine and other routine antigens.”
On his part the Executive Secretary Kaduna State Primary Health Care Agency, Dr Sufiyan Babale noted that it is worthy of note to stress that the state government has made tremendous impact in the fight to eradicate polio.
He said, what is remaining now is how the state can maintain the gains that have already been achieved, saying that is how to make sure that the state remains polio free till the end of the year and beyond.
In a press release on behalf of journalists against polio (JAP) kaduna State chapter, Alh. Lawal Dogara appealed to the parents to as usual bring out their kids for immunization, saying that the immunization exercise will commence on Saturday 24th May,2014 up to Tuesday 27th may 2014.
