High Drama As Saraki ,Ekweremadu Emerge Senate President,Deputy

There was a dramatic twist of events on Tuesday in Nigeria’s Senate as Senator Bukola Saraki of the All Progressives Congress,APC emerged as Senate President  against the will of his party.Senator Ike Ekweremadu was elected as the deputy senate president.Ekweramadu is of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP.

The APC had endorsed the Ahmed Lawan as its candidate for Senate President while Femi Gbajabiamila was endorsed as the APC candidate for Speaker House of Representatives.Saraki  rejected   the APC meeting with senators-elect at the weekend  while Yakubu Dogara ‘s associates walked out on the APC meeting where Gbajabiamila was endorsed.

The tide however changed in favour of APC’s rebel candidates in the Senate and House of Reps when thePDP  endorsed them.

PDP in a statement Tuesday morning endorsed Saraki for Senate President and Dogara for the House of Reps.

Reports said 51 senators  were absent at the Senate  while 57 senators where present to unanimously endorse Saraki as Senate President.
