The Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR, has approved a new set of appointments with immediate effect, a statement by Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye said.
Those appointed include Tijjani Mailafiya Sanka, special adviser, protocol;Col. Umar Malami Muhammed (rtd) DG special services;Muhammad Dahiru Yakasai ,Perm. Sec. Special Duties to Perm. Sec. Protocol; Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud Accountant General and and Yusuf Datti, chief protocol officer
According to the statement, Ganduje appealed to them to work towards achieving the goals of the administration.
In a separate statement Ganduje announces that a master plan for the beautification of Kano state would soon be designed.
Ganduje made this known during the Flagging-off of a Seven-Day Operation Keep Kano Clean at Gyadi Gyadi Sports Complex in Kano city, adding that the plan will give Kano metropolis the status of a truly modern city.
The governor also said the State’s old Sanitation Laws would be revised in line with world environmental best practices, promising to restore night refuse disposal system in the state to avoid traffic hold ups associated with day time refuse clearance. He added that a special road cleaning arrangement will also be introduced for major roads in the state capital.
He stated that his administration will also recruit female sanitary officers to inspect homes, particularly toilets, kitchens and rooms for better sanitation habits in the state, warning that heads of households that failed to adhere to basic hygienic and sanitation would be prosecuted.
“Environmental sanitation starts with personal hygiene. We must enforce cleanliness personally and within our environments to make our society a better place for all”, the governor stressed.
“We want to clear all drainages and culverts in all the nooks and crannies of Kano”, he stated, adding that special attention would be given to abattoirs to prevent contamination of meat and spread of diseases.
Governor Ganduje also said the government will work hand in hand with market leaders to ensure cleanliness of markets, lamenting that many markets in the state are in sorry state due to poor sanitation behavior of the people.
He, therefore, appealed to security agencies, journalist and other stakeholders to join hands with the government to achieve its environmental sanitation objectives, directing local government chairmen to augment government efforts by repairing mini refuse disposal vans provided by the government that will penetrate refuse dump sites in areas not reachable by conventional trucks.
The governor have visited eight places within Kano metropolis where REMASAB in conjunction with Kano State Central Working Committee on Self-Help Groups and Kano Tipper Drivers Association are evacuating refuse dumped in these areas.
The chairman of the state Central Working Committee on Self Help Groups, Ibrahim Garba Amin Kofar Nai’sa promised that they would mobilize community development associations across the state to support the government’s initiative.
The clean up exercise is being conducted in conjunction with Kano State Tipper Drivers Association, which surrendered 50 vehicles free of charge.
