It was  drama all the way Monday morning  as former President Olusegun Obasanjo  made public  his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP in Abeokuta,Ogun State capital.

A report by The Eagle Online said  Obasanjo demonstrated that his decision to quit PDP was irreversible by ensuring that his membership card was torn publicly.

The  drama occurred when Alhaji Usman Oladunjoye, chairman of the party in  his ward led a delegation to visit the former president.

PDP members from  his Ward II in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State visited him at his Hilltop  residence in Abeokuta and he used the occasion to dramatically announce his exit.

“Obasanjo ‎ordered Oladunjoye to tear his (Obasanjo’s) PDP membership card at the meeting. The move was hailed with a thunderous applause by those present

“He equally denied the allegation by President Goodluck Jonathan that he was plotting to head an Interim National Government, which was the reason advanced by the administration at the centre for the recent criticism of the regime by Obasanjo”,The Eagle Online reported earlier today.

This development may be  a final proof that Obasanjo’s disagreement with President Jonathan  has gone beyond repairs.

When reports initially filtered out  about two years ago about a disagreement between the duo, the presidency said it was untrue.

Obasanjo however proved that something was wrong last year when he fired an 18- page letter to Jonathan detailing the nefarious plots against  political opponents including an alleged training of snipers  by the president to kill opponents. The presidency denied such plot.

But the disagreement came to a head recently after INEC postponed Nigeria’s general elections.Obasanjo warned against further postponement. He reportedly endorsed   the main opposition presidential candidate ,General Muhammadu Buhari.

Last Saturday ,Obasanjo  released another stinker in a chat with journalists during which he accused President Jonathan of plotting to stay in power at all costs. He said Jonathan was trying to imitate former president Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast.

The presidency responded to this allegation by accusing Obasanjo of masterminding crisis in Nigeria so as to pave way for an interim  National Government which “ he hopes to head”.Worse still, Femi Fani-Kayode, a well known confidant of Obasanjo who is now serving as spokesman of PDP presidential campaign on Sunday accused Obasanjo of having asked Jonathan to do things that were “simply wrong and unacceptable” as soon as Jonathan assumed office.

Obasanjo  today denied the allegation that he was plotting for an interim government  .But  many expect more salvos from the former president.
