Yet another fuel tanker disaster has been averted in Rivers State.A statement by Yushau Shuaib, head of public relations of the National Emergency Management agency (NEMA) said the agency successfully mobilized Fire service, police and army to avert disaster in Rivers state when a fuel tanker loaded with PMS fell and spilled its content around 1am last night at the popular Igwuruta Round-About where a similar disaster occurred in April this year during which lives were lost.
The promptness of rescuers who arrived the scene immediately after receiving the distress call saved the area from being engulfed in unimaginable inferno that could have occurred at that dead hour of the night when many residents were asleep,Shuaib said.
The Zonal Information of NEMA, Roberts Ekemini who was on the ground for rescue confirmed that: “Though no life was lost the rescuers and security agencies had hectic time this morning preventing people from scooping fuel as many of them actually came with containers and keg to get free petrol.”
