The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom state, Sunday Oghenekaro has said that the Command would enhance professionalism to reduce road crashes in 2018.
In a welcome address during the Command’s First Quarter retreat held in Uyo on Tuesday, he stressed that the command would improve enforcement and rescue services to reduce road crashes and fatality.
According to Oghenekaro, the FRSC would promote ease of doing business with stakeholders by making the corps products available to members of the public.
“It is towards the satisfaction of the Corporate goals of the Corps that this forum is convened as a means of strengthening capacity and knowledge base of personnel to perform at a record level. Set to reduce incidences of road crashes to the barest minimum even as it works towards zero crash,” he said.
While assuring that the Command would carry out special patrol, public enlightenment as well as advocacy visits to enforce traffic regulations during the Easter, Oghenekaro urged road users to “be disciplined, courteous and obey traffic rules as well as avoid drink driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving and excessive speed.”
“We must share in the FRSC of the value of think safety, act safely towards ensuring safer roads fuller lives for all road users,” he said.
In a paper titled, “Enforcement Devoid of Preventive Litigation”, the Sector Legal Officer, Chibuzor Akujuobi said the overall essence of road traffic laws and regulations were to maintain orderliness on the road and safety for road users.
He noted that road crashes were caused by carelessness of some road users who willfully choose not to observe the road traffic and regulations.
Akujuobi said that members of the corps had been empowered to enforce traffic laws.
