The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Open – Minds Young Voices (OMYV) has announced that it will hold an interactive programme tagged, “Beyond Election Promises – Role of the Youths,” tomorrow, Thursday 15th November, 2018, at Valencia Hotel, Blantyre Street, Off Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.
According to a press release by the Communication Officer, Ojooluwa Ibiloye, thehe German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Bernhard Schlagheck will be declaring the conversation open at 09:45hrs.
He said the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Open Minds – Young Voices is a group of socially conscious and proactive Nigerian youths that have been enlightened on the values of social democracy and development, in other to advocate for social justice, good governance and a more peaceful Nigeria. These youths were trained for a 9-month period, during the Youth Activists Development Programme of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). FES is a German private non-profit organization committed to the values of social democracy in Nigeria.
The statement said: “As election period approaches, politicians are already wooing electorates with their campaign promises. Sadly, this routine political exercise goes on every four years without anyone tracking the campaign promises of politicians. Worst still, political parties are not doing enough to build ideological convictions that will guide each candidate to good governance and accountability.
To this end, members of FES Open Mind – Young Voices (OMYV) is organizing this event to commence the discussion on how Nigerian youths can play active role in the political system.
The conversation will witness two (2) Panel Discussions. On the First Panel: Ulrich Thum (FES Nigeria Resident Representative), Chinedu Nwagu (Project Director, Trust Africa) Sentel F. Barnes (Chief of Party, International Republican Institute), and Cynthia Mbamalu (Project Manager, YIAGA Africa) will be discussing “Active Citizenship: Youths as Social Influencers.” The Second Panel will have: Serah Makka-Ugbabe (Country Director, ONE Campaign Nigeria), Hamza Lawal (CEO, Connected Development), Chioma Agwuegbo (Program Manager, Reboot), and Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi (PDP Chieftain). They will be discussing “Campaign Promises and Manifesto: How Can the Youth hold Leaders Accountable?”
The event will afford participants the opportunity to engage salient issues around campaign promises, party manifesto, good governance and public accountability.
