More than 50 female students of the University of Jos, occupying the ground floor of Block B, Naraguta hostel have been dislodged by flood . Witnesses said that the affected female students have sought alternative temporary accommodation. While some have taken refuge in male hostels others are believed to have joined their female friends in the various hostels .
Our correspondent said the flood may have been caused by lack of good drainage system and that the week long downpour led to the flood which ravaged the female hostel.
Already,the Dean Students Affairs Prof. Rotgak Gofwen, hostel supervisor Mr. M – Ibrahim and Physical Facilities have visited the scene. They described the situation as unfortunate and appealed to the student to be calm as the University’s authority was doing everything possible to avert a recurrence.
Comrade Laritmwa Dinget, Hall Governor of Naraguta block B said that over 50 students of the block were stranded and that she has been making arrangement to arrange accommodation for the affected victims. Dinget called on the university authority to open up drainage system to ensure free passage of water without posing further threat to the hostel.
