#TrackNigeria: Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State Chapter, has lauded the Federal Government for initiating financial autonomy in local governments areas.
Abass-Aleshinloye spoke in Ibadan after a joint meeting of local government chairmen in the state.
Abass-Aleshinloye was sworn-in as the new ALGON Chairman in the state by Mr Bimbo Kolade, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
Abass-Aleshinloye said that his administration intended to build its template on the agitation for local government autonomy.
“As the third tier of government, we are the closest to the grassroots. We live with the people and know where the shoe pinches them. I am sure we can achieve a lot as autonomous local governments,’’ he said.
Abass-Aleshinloye said the election of his executives was based on trust and ability to lead them in the best direction, promising not to let them down.
He promised continuous development at the grassroots through unprecedented initiatives.
Among the newly sworn-in executives of ALGON were Mr Oluyinka Jesutoye, Mr Bosun Ajuwon and Mr Niyi Adeagbo as Secretary, Financial Secretary and Public Relations Officer respectively.
Others were Alhaji Habib Ibrahim, Mr Bisi Oladeji and Mr Wasiu Owolabi as Welfare Officer, Ex-Officio I and Ex-Officio II respectively.
The election of the ALGON officers in the state was coming many years after the association had been under control of coordinators.(NAN)
