Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), says the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to diversify Nigeria’s economy through the application of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Onu said this when he received the new Chief of Defence, Space Administration, Rear Adm. Nnamdi Muogilim, in his office, according to a statement issued by Afonja Ajibola, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations of the ministry, on Friday in Abuja.
The minister acknowledged that the efforts of the Defence Space Administration would help facilitate Nigeria’s quest to attain a knowledge-driven economy.
According to him, the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that the country is not left out of any area of technological development.
He emphasised however, that special attention must be paid to the development of STI, in order to quickly transform the economy.
He said: “Nigeria is focused on being one of the world’s largest economies, as efforts are being made to build a strong, large and sustainable economy.
“In the coming years, Nigeria’s population shall continue to increase, hence, the Federal Government is formulating policies to adequately take care of future generations and the population growth.”
Earlier, Muogilim said his office was looking forward to a robust collaboration and closer synergy with the ministry to boost its activities. (NAN)
