Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has emphasised on the need for sustainable peace, unity and the love for one another irrespective of religious, ethnic or political affinities.
The Senator who admonished the people of Sokoto state on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations said, ”these are the most potent and plausible tools of national development, and without them, no nation can progressively surge to sustainable, enviable greatness.
“Achieving them should therefore the preoccupation of any sane and patriotic Nigerian, most especially at the current moment in Nigeria.”
He further appealed to the Muslim Ummah to imbibe the virtues of sacrifice and love amongst the entire citizens of the nation.
“We should keep fostering unity, respect for one another, as well as being pious and law abiding.
“We should also individually as religious, traditional and political leaders guard against hate speeches , as well as incitement or fanning the embers of disunity, especially in this period of increased political tempo in the country,” Wamakko said.
He opined that the significance of the season should be beyond the festivities adding that ”the significance of the event is to bolster piety, self-discipline and sacrifice.”
While congratulating the Muslims for the opportunity by Allah to witness yet another Eid-el-Kabir, he urged the faithful to use the period to pray for peace and unity in the country.
Senator Wamakko also called for special prayers for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
