Sultan Saad Abubakar has observed that more could be achieved on the current war against insurgency and terrorism if Nigerians unite to fight it squarely.
He spoke on Saturday in Sokoto during the turbaning ceremony of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal as Matawallen Sokoto.
“The ongoing war against insurgency and terrorism is succeeding but more can be achieved with the unity of Nigerians,” he observed.
Urging politicians and leaders of the country to work for the people and not
themselves, the Sultan appealed to politicians in the country to close ranks and work for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
“You should eschew politics of personalities and hatred. These acts should not feature during the 2015 general elections,” he stressed.
Also turbaned along with Tambuwal were Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Lawalli Zayanna (Sarkin Gobir of Gwadabawa (District Head); Alhaji Kabiru Tafida (Sarkin Fadan Sokoto); Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Aminu Iya (Iyan Sokoto) and Alhaji Fodio kyari (Wamban Sokoto).
Abubakar explained that the celebrants were bestowed with the titles for their honesty, loyalty and dedication to the service of the people of the state and Nigerians.
Hailing the Sultan for his relentless efforts towards ensuring peace and unity in Nigeria and beyond, Tambuwal also, on behalf of other celebrants, commended the Sultan for finding them worthy for the titles.
“We will continue to emulate our fore-bearers and support the Sultanate Council of Sokoto to ensure the success of its activities.
Those who graced the occasion included former Head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; former vice President, Atiku Abubakar; Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.
Others were APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun; some serving and former Governors; National Assembly members and Emirs.
