Chibok Girls:’As Mothers,We Are Very Much Worried’,Says First Lady

patience_jonathan 600Nigeria’s First Lady ,Mrs Patience Jonathan has once again expressed her worry about the fate of over 200 girls abducted by Boko Haram in Chibok Borno State .Addressing the Association of Spouses of Heads of Mission, (ASOHOM, Dame Jonathan maintained that it was rather unfortunate that the children were still being held hostage. “As mothers, we are very much worried because what concerns one concerns the other; hence we are calling for the release of the girls by their captors and for their safe return”,Mr Jonathan said as contained in a press release from her office.
The President of the Association of Spouses of Heads of Mission, (ASOHOM),Mrs. Mai Anh Shoji, has praised Dame (Dr.) Patience Faka Jonathan, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for making an indelible mark through her programmes to elevate the status of women and her efforts to protect children in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, she further said that history will remember Dame Jonathan as, “A true mother of Nigeria.” The First Lady received this commendation (on Wednesday) when members of ASOHOM paid her a courtesy call at the State House, Abuja.
During her remarks, Dame Jonathan underscored her passion for improving the welfare of women, children and the underprivileged through the programmes of her two NGOs, the Women for Change and Development Initiative and the A. Aruera Reachout Foundation. She also enumerated some of her achievements as the current President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission.
She urged ASOHOM members to feel at home in Nigeria, affirming that her doors are open at all times to support and cooperate with humanitarian and charitable programmes, towards improving the welfare of women and children.
She used the opportunity to express appreciation to ASOHOM’s various home governments for their support towards efforts to secure the release of the abducted school girls.
The First Lady concluded her remarks by commending the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of China for the donation of office equipment to the Secretariat of the African First Ladies Peace Mission, assuring that as President of the Organization, she would continue to advocate for peace in the African region and also, for peace in other regions of the world.
