Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State says the state has reached an advanced stage in its cultivation of cassava that will serve as the raw materials for the production of ethanol bio-fuel.

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Alhaji Abubakar Dakingari, stated this in a statement in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

The CPS said that the governor made this known when he inspected the cassava demonstration farm at Gangije in Gwandu Local Government Area of the state.

Bagudu said that the cassava cultivation was in actualisation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the state government.

He expressed delight on the plantation, assuring the citizens that from what he saw, the state had the capacity to provide more than enough raw materials for ethanol bio-fuel production.

“I am glad to state that I am confident of securing the required raw materials from the three pilot demonstration farms at  Gwazawa in Danko/Wasagu, Gwandu and Maiyama after harvest for the take-off of ethanol production in the state,’’ Bagudu. (NAN)
