The management of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency has launched immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal Calabar incident.
The agency established by law to enforce technical standard and regulations and safety of lives and property in the power industry has dispatched top technical officials to Calabar to commence the full investigation and collate data about the unfortunate electrical accident that claimed several lives.
According to the Chief Executive of the Agency and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engineer Peter Ewesor, the Agency after full investigation will make appropriate recommendations for the immediate rectification of the defects that may have caused the unfortunate incident and proffer solutions/measures to prevent similar future occurrence. Also, he said that appropriate sanctions will be meted out to the culpable for negligence/improper installation use.
“We are committed to ensuring the highest level of safety standard in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. We frown at negligence of basic rules and regulations guiding the operations of the network for the safety of lives and property nationwide”.
Engr. Ewesor sympathized with the families of the victims, the good people and government of Cross River state.
