President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned what has been interpreted as an emergency meeting with the All Progressives Congress APC senators and reps elect .
“The President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari will address all Senators and House of Representatives elect of the All Progressives Congress at 9 am this morning Tuesdayat the International Conference Centre Abuja”,APC Spokesman,Lai Mohammed said in a statement.
The statement urged “All concerned must endeavour to attend this meeting.”
Buhari’s meeting is coming amid indications of seemingly irreconcilable differences among APC senators and reps elect over who should preside over the two legislative chambers.Though the party has adopted Ahmed Lawan as candidate for Senate President,Saraki and his supporters have rejected him.
Also, Yakubu Dogara and his supporters have rejected the adoption of Femi Gbajabiamila as the APC candidate for House of reps.
Interestingly, the crack in APC may have provided the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a chance to influence where the pendulum may swing .
Already, PDP has announced that it has adopted Senator Bukola Saraki for the position of Senate President.
In the same vein, the PDP has adopted Hon. Yakubu Dogara for the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.This was made known in a statement by the party’s spokesman Olisa Metuh.
PDP has urged its senators and members-elect in the National Assembly to act accordingly.
Newsdiaryonline has also learnt that the division the within APC may throw the leadership race in the senate, especially open for even PDP to take advantage .Sources said on Monday that even David Mark has been rallying all PDP supporters to ensure he is also in the reckoning in case APC fails to unite.
