Damagum, one of the towns in Yobe has come under fresh Boko Haram attacks reports said Friday evening.Residents who fled into the bush as the attack raged called their relatives live in the state capital asking for help from the military, said a report by The Eagle Online .
The exact magnitude of tonight’s attacks were not immediately clear.
But the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in another Yobe town after a failed attempt to seize Damaturu the state capital is a clear indication that a lot needs to be done to flush out the insurgents.
There has been no official statement on this latest attack on Yobe town.
Boko Haram attacks have surprisingly continued unabated.The military announced earlier on Friday it was probing reports of fresh abduction in Borno state.Between 100 and 200 persons were reportedly kidnapped in fresh attacks in Borno.
Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima told Channels TV that at least 20 local government areas are no longer accessible because of Boko Haram’s growing influence. Borno state capital ,Maiduguri ,he said has been “encircled” by territories under the control of insurgents,he said
Adamawa,Borno and Yobe states in Nigeria’s north east have been the worst hit by Boko Haram insurgency.The latest attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan to extend the state of emergency in the embattled north east continues to face opposition from the national assembly and some northern stakeholders who believe emergency rule has failed to end the insurgency.
