The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria ATSSSAN has threatened to shut down activities of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA headquarters in Lagos by moving the secretariat temporary to NCAA at the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum within which to address workers welfare.
Investigations revealed that ATSSSAN in a letter to the acting Director General of NCAA Engr Benedict Adeleyika has demanded that all pending welfare matters before the DG involving workers of the organisation must be resolved before 5th July, 2014.
It was gathered that so many outstanding employees’ files on staff welfare matters, allowances, travel claims, have been piled up on the desk of the DG unattended since the last ten to twelve months, while ATSSSAN also called for the full implementation of the approved conditions of service.
The Union has vowed to move its national Secretariat temporarily to the NCAA headquarters to ensure that issues were resolved at the expiration of the ultimatum.
A source close to the Union hinted that ATSSSAN was not happy with the various agencies over the way they are handling the issue of 2014 staff training in the aviation sector.
According to the source, the union has demanded that all the agencies, NCAA, NAMA, FAAN, AIB, NCAT to furnish the union with its 2014 training proposal to ensure that none of its workers was excluded from training.
The union has argued that human capacity development in the aviation sector can not be ignored due to the expanding investment prospects and safety challenges in the industry world wide.
It was also learnt that the union’s principal national officers and branch chairmen and secretaries have been placed on notice for the exercise.
Contacted, the national president of ATSSSAN, Comrade Benjamin Okewu said the union was strategizing to ensure that the action was successful .
