Army @161 : Army  engages students on public speaking in Kaduna

The 1 Division Nigerian Army on Tuesday engaged selected Secondary   Schools on public speaking engagements in Kaduna to mark its 161st anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the schools engaged included Sardauna Memorial College, Government Secondary School Kawo, Government Girls Secondary School Kawo and Rimi College.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen.

 Mayirenso Saraso , said the public speaking engagement was to commemorate the Nigerian Army Day Celebration .

The GOC was represented by the Chief of Staff of the division,  Brig.-Gen. David Nwakonobi .

Saraso said the event was organized to enlighten the participants about the Nigerian Army and influence perceptions, opinions, attitudes as well as behaviors of the targeted audience positively.

According to him, it is also meant to inform the students on the career opportunities in the Nigerian Army.

He added that other talking points included  the need to avoid criminal companies and criminality, advocacy against cultism, drugs and substance abuse, as well as career opportunities for you in the Nigerian Army.

“The criteria for selection and enlistment as well as civil-military relations and developmental projects undertaken by the Nigerian Army,” Saraso said.

The GOC appreciated the Principal and Staff of Sardauna Memorial College Kaduna for providing  the venue for this event in spite of the short notice.

” I also want to thank the management and staff of all the participating schools for bringing their students for the event.”Saraso said.

In his closing remarks, the Principal, Sardauna Memorial College , Malam AbdulRashed Aliyu, commended the Nigerian Army for choosing his school for this historic  event.

Aliyu said,”The event has given them the perspective of what the Nigerian Army is as a discipline and profession .

“It has educated our students to know much about the army and also if they want to choose a career.”

NAN reports that part of the event was playing a 20-minute video  clip on the Nigerian Army to further enlighten the students about their activities.

Also  the presenters went  through a series of short talks on the need to be patriotic citizens of Nigeria, the importance of imbibing the principles of honesty and integrity at all times.

NAN also reports that exercise books and writing materials were presented to the students and the participating schools   .(NAN)
