Some football enthusiasts in Bauchi have expressed optimism that the Super Eagles will bring home the trophy of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Eagles beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0 on Wednesday in their final match in Group D fixture, at Stade Roumdé Adjia, Garoua, Cameroon.
A cross section of the fans, who spoke with NAN in seperate interviews said that expressed confidence in the ability of the Eagles to win the trophy.
Mr Bawaji Konkiyel, Secretary Sports Writers Association (SWAN) in the state, said that with nine points and goals from three opening games, “the Eagles are determined to bring home the trophy.”
Mr Umar Said, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State Council, said the Super Eagles played well and won all their group matches.
“The team played with determination, they should sustain the tempo to utilise their chances in the second round of the tournament,” he said.
Mr Ishola Micheal, a sports analyst, said the team played with determination to excel, adding that it was the first time in many years that the Eagles qualified for the second round of a major competition.
“So far so good, confidence is gradually building up among the players, the team can go far if they keep their heads down.
“This is a sign that the Super Eagles will bring home the trophy, we are really impressed,” he said. (NAN)
