2019: ONSA holds workshop on election security Oct. 11

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) says it will hold a Workshop on Election Management for Security Agencies in Nigeria on Oct. 11 in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the workshop is :“Election Security Management: Pathway to a Credible Electoral Process in Nigeria“.

A letter signed by AIG Peace Abdallah on behalf of the National Security Adviser (NSA), said that the workshop was aimed at enhancing peace, national security and credibility of the 2019 general elections.

Abdallah noted that there had been concerns within and outside the country on the optimal professional conduct of law enforcement agencies deployed on election duties.

She attributed this development to weak professional capacity and knowledge of security agencies on the requisites election security management in a democratic setting.

She said that President Muhammadu Buhari would be in attendance while INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, would deliver a key note address.

Other dignitaries expected at the workshop are: Ministers, Service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, heads of Judiciary and legislature, heads of paramilitary agencies and heads of diplomatic missions, among others.

NAN also reports that about 400 participants from the NSCDC, Police, DSS, Military, FRSC, NDLEA, NPS and NIS would participate at the workshop.(NAN)
