President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has visited communities in his Benue South Senatorial District ravaged by flood and donated relief materials to the victims.
Senator Mark visited four communities; Obagaji, Aila, Okokolo and Okpanchenyi all in Agatu Local Government Area of the State where the flood has been very severe.
He sympathized with the victims most of them have lost their farmlands, houses and other means of livelihood to the flood.
According to him; “I have come to see things for myself. I sincerely sympathize with you. We will continue to do our best to ameliorate the situation.
“The Federal Government has categorized the victims of the flood and a high powered committee has been set up to address the matter. I am sure that in no distant time, help will come your way. I encourage you to be patient because we are not unmindful of your plights.”
He assured them of the Federal Government’s resolve to ameliorate their plights and advised them to compile a comprehensive list of the victims and forward to the appropriate quarters for a possible assistance.
Senator Mark added that the Federal Government is in touch with the Cameroonian Government on the management of flood in order to curtail its negative effects even as he advised Nigerians especially those living along the coastal line to adopt precautionary measures to mitigate the effect of flood.
Specifically, Senator Mark showered encomium on members of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) serving in the flood ravaged communities who are not deterred by the disaster and continued to serve their father land in the areas of their primary assignments.
He also requested health providers in the areas to step up their services to the people in order to prevent outbreak of water-borne diseases.
Speaking on behalf of his people, the paramount ruler of Agatu, the Ada Agatu, Chief Godwin Onah, expressed appreciation to the President of the Senate for his concern and donations even as he requested him to help facilitate provision of more relief materials and save the people from squalour.
