Two men — Ojo Sunday and Sanni Gafaru — who are standing trial over theft of phones valued at N124, 000, were on Wednesday remanded in prison on the orders of an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Sunday, 22, and Gafaru, 20 — whose addresses were not provided, are facing a charge of armed robbery.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pleas of the accused were not taken as Magistrate Dolapo Akosile remanded them in prison and directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 30 at Abaiyamedi on Ilawe Road in Ado Ekiti.
He alleged that the accused attacked the complainants — Mr Odunayo Akintola and Mr Raphael Olabanji — with dangerous weapons and robbed them of their valuables.
“The accused stole a a sum of N47, 000, a Tecno CX phone valued at N64,000 and an Infinix Note 3 phone valued at N60, 000,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 403 (a) and 402 (2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The case was adjourned until March 8 for mention. (NAN)
