Man in court for alleged N780,000 accommodation fraud

The Police  on Thursday arraigned one Femi Adeleye, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged N780,000 fraud.

The defendant, who resides at Efab Estate, Life Camp Abuja, is standing trial on a two-count charge of joint act and cheating.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Deborah Achu, of Jabi Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Jan. 11.

The complainant said that sometimes in November 2017, the defendant and one Narumfa Bature now at large, formed criminal intention and dishonestly deceived her.

She said that Bature claimed to be a house agent of a particular property where the complainant paid N780, 000 to them to rent an apartment.

She alleged that she paid the money but did not get the apartment.

Dalhatu said that the offences contravened Sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Feb. 12, for hearing. (NAN)
