The Council of Ulama of Nigeria on Wednesday urged the Federal and state governments to grant soft loans to real farmers.
The National Secretary of the council, Prof. Muhammad Abubakar, made the appeal at a news conference held in Kaduna.
According to Abubakar, one of the surest ways to revamp the nation’s economy is to massively investment in agriculture, which the Federal Government is actively pursuing.
“The council calls for more federal and state governments participation through disbursement of agricultural implements, grants and soft loans to the actual farmers.
“This will serve as motivation to the teeming unemployed youths across the country,’’ he said.
Abubakar said the government officially announced that our economy had recorded a recovery as it was getting out of distress.
He prayed for a complete recovery so that every Nigerian could enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He reiterated the council’s support for this administration’s fight against corruption, war against Boko Haram and the Niger Delta militants.
He called on the government to respond to questions being posed by many Nigerians about amount so far recovered from the loots of corrupt public servants and institutions, and also how the government intents to spend it. (NAN)
