The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday said two additional Russian athletes have been disqualified from the 2012 Olympics after being caught doping in targeted retests.
Long jumper Anna Nazarova and 400m and 4x400m runner Yulia Gushchina were both caught using the banned substance turinabol, with Gushchina also testing positive for the steroid stanozolol.
Nazarova was stripped of fifth place, Gushchina finished 15th in the 400m and was already stripped of the relay silver after a team-mate was caught doping in retests.
The IOC said it has now completed retesting all 2012 samples from Russian athletes in connection with a probe into state-sponsored doping practices and doping schemes at the Sochi 2014 Games.
In all, the IOC has retested over 1,600 samples from the 2008 and 2012 Games, with 114 athletes sanctioned.
The IOC stores samples from these Games for eight years, and the full retests are yet to be completed.
The IOC said that Turkish 100m hurdles runner Nevin Yavit also failed a 2012 doping test but already has been banned from June 2012 onwards by the ruling athletics body IAAF. (dpa/NAN)
