Nigeria’s Senate has waded into the reported rift between the Minister of State Petroleum Resources and the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Company,NNPC, Maikanti Baru.
Reports from the National Assembly said the Senate has set up an adhoc committee to probe the allegations bordering on insubordination and contract scam against Baru.
The Senate adhoc committee set up Wednesday has Senator Aliyu Wammako as Chairman. Members include Senators Rose Ojo, Kabiru Marafa, Bashir Babakaka, Albert Akpan, Chukwuka Utazi, Tayo Alasoadura.
Kachikwu had in a memo to President Muhammadu Buhari, which has been leaked to the media accused Maikanti Baru, of insubordination .
The minister accused Baru of awarding contracts without approvals by the board. He also slammed the GMD for making appointments in the NNPC without consulting him.
The adhoc committee set up by the senate is to thoroughly investigate the issues raised in the memo.
