The Senate on Thursday directed its committee on Federal Character to investigate the proposed introduction and enforcement of speed limit device by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The matter was raised during plenary by Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West.
Melaye, relying on Senate order 43 (personal explanation) informed the upper chamber of the National Assembly that FRSC was proposing to introduce speed limit device in the country.
He added that FRSC was also planning to sell the device to all vehicles in the country. He said in other countries, it is the Road Safety Agency that has the responsibility of putting speed limit sign on the highways.
“I bring to the notice of the Senate that FRSC is proposing to introduce speed limit device. It is the responsibility of FRSC to mount speed limit sign post in various highways and any driver who exceeds the limit would be booked,” Melaye said
In his ruling the Senate President Bukola Saraki referred the matter to Senate Committee on Federal Character to report back after the investigation.
