Nigerian Army wrestling team at the ongoing National Open Trial Championship for the All Africa Games selection have won 2 Gold and 2 Bronze Medals.
Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman said in a statement this feat is in furtherance of Nigerian Army’s sterling contributions to Nigeria internally and externally in different sectors.
“This has gone to prove that despite the ongoing war against terrorists soldiers of the Nigerian Army also actively involved in preparations to ensure Nigeria comes out tops in international sporting events. Personnel of Nigerian Army Physical Training Corps have continued to excel in the ongoing national trials garnering several medals”, he added.
Private Tochukwu Okeke of Army Headquarters Garrison Physical Training Group defeated the current champion, Perefeya Kiribien of Bayelsa State in Greco-Roma 75 Kilogramme weight category to earn a Gold medal. Similarly, Private Hannah Reuben of 81 Division Physical Training Group won a Gold medal in Freestyle 65 Kilogramme Females Category.
She defeated Iheanacho Ifeoma of Imo Stare. In the same sport competition, Corporal Smart Igboko of 2 Battalion and Lance Corporal Joy Eguche Guards Brigade Physical Training unit also won Bronze medals respectively.
Usman said it is hoped that the team would win more at the final bouts slated for tomorrow at the National Stadium Abuja and will go on to make the nation proud in the forthcoming All Africa Games.
