The battle for the control of the National Working Committee of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP has shifted to the judiciary as a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has been approached and asked to stop PDP from compelling Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu as well as other exco members to resign before the expiration of their tenure.
Tasiu Iliyasu Hussaini and Waziri Amadu in a suit CV/1831/15, dated May 14, 2015 prayed the court to determine whether the National Working committee of the party can be dissolved or forced to resign their positions without adhering to required procedure in the party’s Constitution.
The plaintiffs want the court to declare that the NWC of the party cannot be dissolved or forced to resign their positions without following procedure laid down by the party’s constitution.
They further asked the court to issue an order restraining the party from directing Mu’azu and other NWC members from resigning their positions without following the prescribed procedure in the party’s constitution.
An affidavit in support of the originating summons deposed to by the plaintiff, noted that leaders of the party have been calling for the dissolution of the national exco of the party because of the defeat suffered in the last election .
It added that the calls for their resignation was against the spirit of the constitution of the party and the collective resolve of party members.
It was also noted that the call for the resignation of the NWC members of the party will hamper attempt to rejuvenate the party for future polls.
