Chieftains of the Democratic Peoples Party ,DPP have extended a hand of fellowship to Nigeria’s President elect,General Muhammadu Buhari.
Chairman of DPP, Mr Olisaemeka Akamukal said during a visit to General Buhari Tuesday ‘’we are in the opposition but what we are extending to you is hands of fellowship. Our coming was to formally inform the president elect to recover all the recoverable of Nigerians resources from private hands that is illegitimately acquired for the benefit of the country and to the glory of God.’’
He noted earlier that after Buhari’s victory, his party “ agreed today to formally express our solidarity ‘’
Speaking further on why Buhari must strive hard to recover looted funds,DPP chairman said ‘’ we believe that twenty five percent of our wealth in privates hands if recovered will go a long way in making most of your campaign promises and agenda (realizable)’’ .
He also pleaded with the president elect to declare state of emergency in the power sector.
Addressing the need for further electoral reform the chairman said ‘’Nigerians are passionate people and this election is the best Nigerians have witnessed , Nigerians wants to see a better election in future that will surpass the standard in America and other places ‘’.
“Accept our hands of fellowship and solidarity”, Mr Olisaemeka declared.
General Buhari expressed gratitude to the chieftains .He also said , “I will use your party’s initiative ,if possible consult you on how to recover the recoverable’’.
The president elect also spoke on the security situation in the north, east and Niger delta ‘’the security issues are continuous processes and I see the south east as business oriented people’’.He highlighted the security situation in the Eastern Nigerian such as armed robbery ,kidnapping and abduction where ransoms are demanded by criminals. ‘’Free movement is necessary for any developing society, and security is number one target of the incoming government since security is the number one problem’’,Buhari said.
‘’The north east is crippled and strangled by the insurgency .Structures like schools, houses, Mosques, Churches were raised down ’’, he lamented.
