The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has dismissed impeachment speculation against principal officers of the National Assembly as “fake news”.

Akpabio who announced during plenary that reports reaching the red chamber that the Department of State Service (DSS) had taken over the National Assembly over impeachment speculation was an imagination of the fake news purveyor.

“Information reaching us is that DSS has surrounded the National Assembly possibly to stop impeachment of principal officers” adding that “there is no limit to social media”.

He said they were “sitting down doing our work very peacefully oblivious of the mischief that is going on behind us”.

Akpabio who started laughing, asked Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, whether he should refer the fake news to the Committee on Army, Interior or Police Affairs, but finally referred it the Committee on Special Duties chaired Kaka Lawan (SAN) to investigate and report back to the Senate within 24 hours.

He said it was part of what they lawmakers pass through on a daily basis: “It is either they us AI to inject something to turn it around to draw traffic. I understand that they are being paid by YouTube if they have a lot of traffic.

“So, whoever brought out this fake news must paid a lot of money because of the traffic going on. But I hope the public is aware that this is total fake news and that the chamber is very stable and the issue of impeachment does not come in”,Akpabio said.
