The new Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Thaddeus Chidi Nzeadibe has pledged to make the faculty a global visibility through academic excellence.
Nzeadibe made the pledge in Nsukka on Thursday while receiving the handover documents from Prof. Ike Onyishi, the outgoing Dean of the faculty.
He said that his mission is to achieve enhanced Collegiality, Collaboration, Partnership, Impact and Global Visibility (CCPIG) in the Faculty, as well as promote all-round staff and students welfare.
“My administration will give the faculty a global visibility, promote transdisciplinary research, and strengthen alumni linkages.
“We will formalise the faculty mentorship programme, institute staff training in grant writing and research funding, revive the faculty seminar series and fair academic assessment, as well as foster strong linkeges with faculty members in diaspora.
“We will also promote ethical standards and facilitate journal indexing, as well as rebrand the faculty annual conference,” he said.
The new dean who is a Professor of Environmental Management and Sustainability expressed appreciation to the faculty staff for electing him unopposed as their dean and promised to do his best to justify the confidence and trust reposed on him.
“I have spent 23 years of my life in faculty of social science, I became a professor in 2018, and has been a head of department, acting dean, association dean, faculty postgraduate representative, among others positions.
“That is why I was not surprised when i was elected unopposed because I have my imprint across the faculty,” he said.
Nzeadibe promised that he would carry everybody along as well as consolidate on the achievements of his prediscessor (Onyishi) in order to take the faculty to a greater height.
Speaking earlier while handing over to Nzeadibe, Prof. Onyishi expressed gratitude to staff and students of the faculty for their maximum cooperation given to him and urged them to extend same to the new dean.
Onyishi listed some of his achievements to include; Beautification of faculty environments with grass and walk-ways, construction of a fountain at the faculty, which has become the most beautiful scene in UNN campus where students now come to take their pictures.
Others are, installation of CCTV to monitor and protect equipment and installations in the faculty, renovating and equipping faculty hall, among others.
The outgoing dean expressed satisfaction that Nzeadibe whom he described as an erudite professor with high capacity in human and material resources management is the person that is his successor.
