The political crisis in Taraba State took a new turn at the weekend as lawmakers have named a five –man medical team to determine Governor Danbaba Suntai’s “true state of health” .This is believed to be a move towards impeaching the governor who has been ill since October 25, 2012 when he was involved in a helicopter crash in Adamawa state.
Members of the investigative panel include Prof. B.B Shehu who is the Chairman ,while Dr. Inusa Samaila, Prof. Peter Alabi, Dr. Shehu Sule as well as Dr. Ahmed Kara will serve as members..
Speaker Taraba State House of Assembly, Josiah Sabo Kente said the panel was constituted following a demand by the commissioners who said there was the need to know the “mental and physical condition of the governor”.
This will help determine whether he is fit to remain in office as governor.
Suntai’s health has for a long time become a contentious issue as Christians and Muslims battle for control of the state.Suntai is a Christian .His deputy Garba Umar who is now acting governor is a Muslim.Garba Umar who is the acting governor is believed to be digging in as 2015 draws closer.
But those who use religion to determine who is for or against Suntai often forget that it was the governor himself who engineered the impeachment of his first deputy to facilitate the emergence of his bossom friend, Umar as his new deputy governor before the plane crash unexpectedly rendered the governor ill ever since.
